Tree & Shrub Planting Compost
Peat Free • 100% Organic • PAS100 Certified
Give new trees, hedging and shrubs the best possible start with our fine, rich planting compost, screened to 10mm for easy handling and excellent soil contact. This black, organic compost is ideal for tree & shrub planting, soil improving and mulching around established plants.
🌱 Why use specialist planting compost?
Newly planted trees and shrubs rely on rapid root establishment to survive and thrive. Poor soil structure, compaction or low organic matter can slow growth and cause transplant stress. Our planting compost helps create the ideal root environment from day one.
✅ Key benefits:
✅ Encourages faster root establishment – supports strong early growth and reduces transplant shock
✅ Improves soil structure – loosens heavy clay and adds body to light sandy soils
✅ Boosts nutrient availability – increases organic matter to improve soil fertility
✅ Enhances moisture retention – helps keep roots hydrated during dry spells
✅ Improves drainage – reduces waterlogging around young roots
✅ Supports long-term plant health – builds healthier soil over time
✅ Peat free & environmentally responsible
✅ Quality assured – produced to British PAS100 standard
How Much Compost Do I Need Per Tree?
The amount required depends on the size of the root ball and soil condition. As a general guide:
- Small trees (1–1.5m tall): 1–2 x 40L bags
- Medium trees (1.5–2.5m tall): 2–4 x 40L bags
- Larger specimen trees: 5+ bags (or consider a bulk bag)
- Hedging trenches: allow approx. 40–60L per metre of trench
For best results, mix planting compost approximately 50/50 with your existing soil when backfilling. In poor or heavy clay soil, increasing the compost ratio can significantly improve establishment.
What is it made from?
Made from 100% recycled horticultural and arboricultural cuttings, composted at high temperature and screened to produce a consistent, easy-to-use planting compost.
