[tab name="How to Grow"]

How to grow me...

Daffodils are easy to grow and one of the most reliable spring flowers you can buy, requiring little aftercare they will provide years of joy for a small outlay.

They enjoy a free draining soil, and are happy in most soil types, preferring to be placed in a sunny spot. When preparing the ground loosen the soil in the planting area, working in some organic material to boost fertility and drainage.

Plant at a depth of 15 cm with a 10 cm gap between them,

This years flowering bulbs may flower again next year, in order to promote this the following should be done.

  • Remove the flower head once this have gone over, by cutting off the Pistil ( the green centre of the flower that's left after the petals have fallen off). This will ( if left to grow) produce seeds which will take energy away from the bulb as the rest of the leaves and stem dieback.
  • Allow the stem & leaf to die back naturally, this allows the nutrients built up in the growing season to return to the bulb making next years flowers even better! Once brown and dried out the leaves can be removed.
  • These bulbs should not be lifted.

*Drainage in the form of horticultural potting grit can be added to the soil directly under your bulbs to ensure the roots do not sit in water and rot away. Clay soil that retains water may need improvement for successful flowering.[endtab]
