How to Weed & Feed Your Lawn
A garden lawn is often taken for granted, expected to grow and stay healthy without much care & attention. However to keep your lawn fresh, green and weed free you do need to give it some love, care and attention.
Caring for your existing lawn is much cheaper than ripping it up and laying new turf, so here's our quick guide on how to feed and weed your lawn to keep your it green, healthy and weed free.
When to Feed & Weed Your Lawn
The first steps to keeping your lawn in shape is to give it a feed. Like all living things grass needs feeding.. the good news is, it isnt greedy!
Ideally your lawn needs an aplication of a good quality lawn feed every spring and autumn, to replenish the nutients taken up from the soil during the summer and set it up for a good growing season in the spring.
The Benfits of Lawn Feed & Weed
Feeding your lawn will keep the plants strong and healthy, enabling it to fend off disease and to increase plant density in your lawn, helping to keep out unwanted weeds.
Weeding your lawn will keep it looking prestine, this can be achived in two ways:
- Manual removal of large weeds, like dandilions - just use an old kitchen knife to cut them out.
- Using a weed killer - make sure you use a weed killer specifically designed for use on lawns otherwise you may kill off your grass as well!
Which Lawn Weed & Feeds to Use?
Lawn Feed & Weed killers come in liquid form and granular form, for best results we recommend using a combined weed killer and feed such as Evergreen Complete 4-in-1 or a dedicated moss treatment such as Evergreen Mosskill
Weed & Feed Application
It is important to apply lawn feed and weed treatments at the correct application rates (as per the manufactures directions) as applying too much can damage / kill off your precious grass.
For best results (and to make your life alot easier) we recommend using a garden spreader, this can be used to spread feed and granular weed killer, moss killer, grass seed and lawn top dressing and a good quality spreader can even be used to spread de-icing salt in the winter months!
A good quality spreader will ensure you apply the correct amount of of product at the appropriate rate.
